An Art show that lifts you out of your everyday city care and into a world of fantasy. Art that stuns you into another existence. So out of the box and different to the lacerated faces, debauched bodies, crying female forms and the general air of tragedy, angst, pain and trauma. Canvases that take you into a world of the cruelty that infests difficult times. Art’s journey is often seen as poetic when it is dark and tumultuous.
And then there is Trishala Jain. “I refuse to conform or be straight jacketed” she says as she urges you to drop all your baggage at the door when you walk in to be taken into the enchanting journey of her art”.
I have to say that while angst and existentialism may be a point of view, visuals of fantasy and dreams when essayed on canvas have that quality that lift and create flight. And yet the work is layered with multiple meaning, spoofing, teasing, philosophizing, speaking and exploring as you ‘read’ into it.
In the film ‘Hugo’, Isabelle is in a romance with words. Trishala Jain’s love for words, their sound, their feel and their visual only grew through her study and later teaching stint in America. She actually made her students play with words and language by cutting out words and creating word art.

This love and experience in words and the English language along with her natural creative impetus and talent for painting has intertwined to create kaleidoscopic lyrical fantasy art of whimsical movement and transitional madness, that attracts you and brings happiness and joie de vivre.
The interlacing of humor into her work is often evident. A spoof of our times, she pokes fun at the age of brands that rule people’s lives, who essentially say “I am more because I own Channel”, speaking of a type of human bondage and urging you to shelve the bondage of acquisition and over active mind work in order to activate other sensors.
You might ask what is my favourite work, and I’m like a child in a toy shop, I want it all, the tea table I can see my self at, sipping tea and looking at the collaged images and painting on it, the large chair entitled ‘I’m the Grandest’ but the piece de resistance is the big burly grandfather cupboard, brimful of desirable possessions. Looking at her art is like flying a magic carpet, into a world of visual fantasy literature, a genre of its own, layered with metaphor and attitude.
I see Trishala as a modern day Alice in Wonderland- wonderstruck in her own literary allusions, bursting to create and involved in the process of it all. Buzzing , teaming, complex shapes in a diversity of innovation chronicling our exciting times, challenging narrow pre-digested interpretation of what art ‘should be’ and ‘shouldn’t be’, breaking rules and loosing herself in her growing world of imagination that knows no limitations nor boundaries created by the pseudo intellectuals of our age that dictate the ‘rules’.
I journeyed through a multitude of experience through works that stay with me until this moment, through art that takes you through a gamut of emotion and philosophic journeys, expansion, space, calm, movement, worlds of William Blake, Indian Philosophy, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and Vedanta.
